The Rising Sun is a traditional inn where, after a few pints and a game of skittles, you can rest up in one of their rooms.

The Venue
This honest, no-frills pub, which is also a guest house, has an unremarkable bar area but a more interesting back room. While ordering your drink, you can glance at the Elvis and Arthur Tracy portraits or the old city prints hanging on the wall. There are even a few vinyls stuck on the ceiling.

Wander further into the pub and you'll find the games room which has a pool table, dart board, skittle alley and games machines. On the wall, there is a wall painting of a rugby field to reinforce the traditional sports pub feel.

The People
During the day, The Rising Sun is pretty dead and just a few regulars potter about with a pint in their hand and a story to tell. It's one of those pubs where everyone knows everyone's name, and business.

Most of the small crowd of regulars are in their forties, but during the evenings a younger set comes in for a game of pool or skittles. Behind the bar are a few pictures of some 'mad' nights and Tuesday's karaoke evening has no doubt provided its fair share of these Kodak moments.

The Drink
The Rising Sun is a basic boozer so don't expect a Mojito or a far-flung real-ale. Beers include Fosters, Kronenberg, Stella, Guinness and Blackthorn. And if you are planning on having a few you better visit during the happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays between 5pm and 7pm when pints are half price.

Drinks are not very expensive here, though, despite the central location, and most pints are well under £3. A few wines and all the regular spirits are also available, and if you are hungry the barmaid will prepare you a toastie with chips as a special request if you ask nicely.

The Last Word
The Rising Sun is worth the trip for the game room. Old-fashioned skittle lanes are surely due to get listed status they're so rare. And here you can spend the whole evening playing something while sipping your beer.
