The ViewBath Review
This central Irish pub caters to straightforward tastes. It's best not to be too picky about beer, and so long as you don't need a sophisticated atmosphere or the need to dress up to enjoy yourself then you'll like Flan o'Briens.
The Venue
The place is bright thanks to the many tall windows and the light makes this medium-sized pub look larger. If the sun isn't shining, pretty lampposts are turned on and the room assume a charming old-time character. The split-level space is decorated with old Guinness ads and other prints that relate to Ireland. There are TV screens for sports and game machines, but most people are just caught up in conversation or drinking at their table.
The People
The crowd is young and stress-free and you'll see guys in shorts and flip-flops moving around with their beer in hand. It is not exactly what you would expect of an Irish pub but Flan O’Briens is actually quite enjoyable and there is no need to wave the Irish flag to make of it a decent drinking hole. This is the kind of place where “come as you are” is not only welcome but promoted.
The Drink
The drink selection is Irish, obviously, and you can get Guinness but also the less common Murphy’s Irish Stout. For the rest, they serve a regular selection including Blackthorn cider, Corona, Peroni, Holsten and others.
There are also a few wines available. 'Few' is the key word here since you can pick from three reds and three whites, one rose and one sparkling wine. A glass will cost you £3.60 for the sparkling wine and £3.10 for all the other ones.
The Last Word
Ever think the world would be a better place if we were all living a frill-free life? A good way to test this theory is to go to Flan O’Briens. But don’t drink too much or you will soon forget your bearings.
