“Dreadful, avoid unless you like greasy food & unhelpful staff & poor cook!”
went with the family to this place and had it not been we were all so hungry would have walked out ! Wished we had, dreadful service, no vegetarian options even though they mislead us on the website to think there was. Asked what vegetarian option it was either a plate of vegetables with no protein, or bread and olives! Asked for omelette or sandwich NO was the reply! Even offered to go and cook it and help the cook out. The place wasn’t even busy! Shocking, the non veggie part of our party had very greasy meals and even the kids didn’t eat their fish and chips!
Decor tired, chairs uncomfortable and chef either couldn’t be bothered or incapable!
Plenty of better places to eat in Bath.
Poor food terrible service will never go back and I don’t think they have changed their menu since 1700! Having eaten all over the world congratulations chequers you are THE WORSE PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO for variety and quality and service!

Dreadful food dreadful service incredibly overpriced even by Baths standards. Jamies Italian and Marco pierre whites are far cheaper and at leastrhe food is good.
Terrible service greasy food and very expensive. Even though they say there are vegi options when you turn up there really aren't any which is surprising in 2011!! Plate of vegetable was THE only option and that was £10!!
Avoid this place they're either incapable or just don't care about pleasig the customer!

I was so delighted when I discovers the new improved Chequers- at last a casual interior (gastropub-Georgian) with delicious food and at reasonable prices . The menu is very varied so whether you want a sandwich/snack or 3-courser there's a really good range to choose from. I love the wall benches and large old tables downstairs with the lovely big Georgian windows.
The only thing I wonder about is the seeming obsession with marmalade with pudding? Also - while it is brilliant that they offer a meat free trad Sunday 'roast' for vegetarians- it could be made a destination venue if they added some mushroom and herb 'sausages' or nut roast or Riverford's excellent recipe for Squash, ricotta, sage and pecan roulade.
Perfect for a spur of the moment lunch or supper - also good for family get togethers.
Sunday Roast
The food is very tasty and the atmosphere is fine, as long as you enjoy a bit of a techno beat with your Sunday roast. Perhaps, the 'young and trendy' rules could be relaxed on Sunday lunchtimes?
Beware if you have any kind of food allergy or intolerance though. It might result in a 'dry roast'.
The chefs haven't quite caught onto the fact the the more enlightened Bath establishments serve up a 'jus' or at least a gravy thickened without wheat or gluten - at the same time as the rest of the meal, especially if they've been advised of a food intolerance / allergy on booking.
Sloppy. Or rather - not sloppy enough!
I've always taken the view that you have to be prepared to lose the Yorkshire's, having checked that the potatoes aren't wheat crisped (otherwise don't book!) but the ensuing negotiation and tedium of seeing dry roast disappear to be kept warm whilst gravy is finally produced, as companion tucks in, is the reason why a potential 4 star rating is only a 3.
