The ViewBath Review
Fashionable, sultry and well-designed, Beau Bar is a great place to get a better than average drink in a better than average bar.The VenueOnce a pub, now a bar, only the most nostalgic will regret the change. Beau Bar is a central, trendy drinking spot worth visiting, especially if the traditional pub doesn't do it for you. A skillful interior designer has created this bar's look, which is a modern take on 1970s decor. Past the outdoor seats you will encounter the bar, where you can sit on tall black leather stools, and behind it, there's an ornate silver frame highlighting a black mosaic that reflects the light.
Past the bar, you will see a striking sauna-style wooden elliptical bench covered in floral, furry and plain cushions. It looks great, regretfully it is not that comfortable, but if it is the cosiness of your sofa you are after, you would never leave home, right? And there is a leather couch in the back room so you have no reason not to come here. Beau Bar is nicely colour coordinated around a sultry white, black and red palette with burgundy and beige accents.
There are wooden logs in an orderly pile and the bathrooms are decorated with floral wallpaper. The last sexy touch is the framed photos on the wall, where lingerie models in allusive poses illustrate which type of beauty the name of the venue refers to.
The PeopleFull of individuality, the bar hosts personalities that are beyond the regular pub crowd. Most do not sport designer gear or sip the most expensive Champagne but the clientele is rather well-off and more refined than usual.
The place is attractive enough to draw in different generations but, on the whole, you'll see lots of mid and late twenties drinking here, as well as those in their thirties. Due to its proximity to the theatre, expect an older crowd to walk in at the end of a show. The place is packed beyond capacity on weekend nights, so get in early or there’s no chance of a seat, and keep in mind that the elliptical bench is the best spot for chatting with strangers.
The DrinkDuring the day, beer is what Beau Bar serves the most. In the afternoon, there are only a few customers coming in and you will hear them ordering a Pilsner Urquell, Peroni, Leffe or another imported beer.
When the night falls, wine bottles are quickly opened and finished just as fast, and let’s not forget, there are quite large groups of Champagne drinkers as well. The selection of bottles is quite good and the cheapest wine is nicely priced at £12 to £13.
A long list of spirits complement the rest of the menu. If you want to keep on with the general theme, order a shot of Absolut Vodka from the disco ball bottle.
The Last WordBeau Bar is a chic bar that's a bit more grown-up than your average cocktail bar. It's somewhere you can sip your drinks and not worry too much about how you look, or who's looking at you.
