Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's latest comedy outing is a modestly enjoyable Sci-Fi spoof, but there's something about it very lacking. The jokes can be hilarious and generally. However at times they can be a little over-the-top as can the acting. The film is directed by Greg Mottola, the American who made 2007's hilarious smash hit comedy Superbad. Despite it's two British leads, Paul is a very American film that lacks the classy British humour that made Pegg and Frost's previous outings Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz so funny. Some of the jokes are way too American to have a lasting impact. Still Pegg and Frost's irresistible funniness still shines and although this Sci-FI road movie about two Brit comic-book geeks who travel across America and meet a lonely alien is no match for Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, it's still good fun as of any films with Pegg and Frost. Plus the special-effects that went in to creating Paul the alien are spectacular with Seth Rogen providing a wonderful voice to the coolest alien on Earth. A fair bit of fun.
Just saw it... it's a hilarious feel-good sci-fi road movie, with some some great gags, memorable one-liners and some nifty special effects.
Worth a close encounter!
