I really can't believe that this film gets 5 stars on View London. Kick-Ass is a thoroughly OK movie that is quite entertaining, but the idea that it gives some amazing new twist to the action-hero genre is ridiculous. It is also very violent and gun-centric, that dismal US disease, which considering this is a movie aimed predominantly at teenagers, kids even, is a little disturbing; more disturbing is the juxtaposition of violence and children in the movie. Aaron Johnson is good in the title role, but anyone who can’t stand Nicolas Cage (and I am one of them) will be glad to know that he wears a mask for most of the movie. There is a nice choice of music for the soundtrack, but Citizen Kane in spandex this is not – 5 stars? I don’t think so.
