The ViewBath Review
This venue oozes potential and if there is a new place in Bath that’s able to attract decent bands, it is definitely Burdall’s Yard. The VenueYou often hear the Bath's youth complaining about the lack of good live music. Well, now there are no more excuses for the bands and cool acts to avoid Bath. Burdall’s Yard can cater to the most demanding riders (there’s even a shower in the rehearsal room) while taking in up to 400 eager fans.
You enter through a gate on London Road and, past the courtyard, you find yourself in the dark bar. The wall opposite is covered in dark and fashionable baroque wallpaper, and there's a few high tables and chairs. Past this area, you enter a series of large vaulted rooms and the steps are highlighted by neon lights, there is more wallpaper and there are plenty of chairs and tables to sit down with a drink.
The last room is where the stage is, right under a stone vault. Directly in front, there is space for the crowd or the moshpit depending on who’s playing. And if it is just a wedding reception you are trying to organise, Burdall’s Yard is available for private hire and it also has full disabled access.
The PeopleThere is no set atmosphere to this place yet. Burdall’s is still finding its feet and they need to build up their events. Many gigs, including a reggae weekend, are already scheduled, though, and you can buy tickets for £3 to £15. The management also plan on promoting regular DJ nights spanning different genres and the potential is endless. Just watch this space.
The Food and DrinkThings are still in the making in this department as well. For now you can get beers and spirits and, in a few months, you may even be able to order cocktails. The prices are rather average and a pint of Fosters will cost you £2.30 while an imported San Miguel goes for £3.30. The bar runs rather smoothly already, and in the future you may be able to order food as well. The tentative menu is orientated towards well-made pub dishes and panini. Expect to pay from £5 for a starter to £15 for a steak.
The Last WordThe potential is all there. Burdall’s Yard looks cool, it is large enough and it has all the structure needed to make it a great club and live music venue. Just give it some time and Bath will not be able to function without this space.
